Coils and Cutoffs
Partial coils and job cutoffs from commercial pulls: the everyday XHHW lot.
XHHW is the heavy-duty building wire of commercial and industrial work: high-heat rated, cross-linked insulation, thicker than ordinary THHN. Panel shops, commercial electricians, and plant maintenance pull it by the coil. If you have XHHW cutoffs or surplus, that copper has a buyer.
XHHW stands for cross-linked polyethylene, high-heat-resistant, water-resistant wire. In plain terms: it is building wire with tougher, thicker insulation than the THHN most people know, rated for hotter and wetter locations. Electricians pull it through conduit in commercial buildings, panel shops wire industrial panels with it, and plants run it to feeders and motors. It is single-conductor copper, usually in black, red, blue, white, or green, and it strips into excellent copper.

Cross-linked insulation rated for high heat: premium building wire with solid copper inside.
Black, red, blue, white, green, from small branch sizes to heavy feeder gauges.
A partial coil or a job’s worth of cutoffs: all welcome.
Cross-linked insulation over solid copper: quality insulated wire.

Photos of the wire, how much you have, and your location. One coil or a job’s worth: every lot starts the same way.

Insulation. XHHW uses cross-linked insulation that handles higher heat and moisture than THHN’s thinner jacket. Both are solid copper building wire, and both sell well: XHHW’s thicker jacket just means it strips a little differently.
They help. Markings like XHHW-2 and the wire size confirm exactly what the coil is. If the markings are worn off, a photo of the wire still gets you an accurate quote.
Yes. There are no minimums and every coil counts. Partial coils are the most common XHHW lot there is.
Yes. Mixed building-wire lots are normal: each type is graded separately and the breakdown shows every line.
You do not need to. Insulated wire sells as insulated wire, and the quote reflects the copper recovery. Stripping is your call: it is labor against a grade difference we can talk through.
Yes. Panel shops and contractors with steady wire output can set up a collection rhythm: accumulate, call, and the wire moves on your schedule.
Send photos of the wire, a quantity, and your location. You will get a fast quote and a clear breakdown before you commit to anything.
