How do I know my tooling is really carbide?
Try the magnet test: tungsten carbide is only very weakly magnetic, while tool steel grabs a magnet hard. Carbide is also much heavier than steel for its size and usually has a darker gray, almost gunmetal finish. Still not sure? Text a photo to 312-880-8174 — I identify it free.
Should I sort my carbide before selling?
It helps but it is not required. Keeping inserts separate from brazed tooling and keeping grinding sludge in its own container gets you the most accurate quote. Mixed piles are fine too — send a photo and I will tell you what you have.
