THE WIRE WE BUY

Know your jacket. We buy them all.

  • THHN / building wire — the single conductors electricians pull through conduit. Thin jacket, excellent copper recovery.
  • Romex (NM-B) — the flat-sheathed cable in house walls. Two or three insulated conductors plus a bare ground inside one outer sheath.
  • UF cable — like Romex but with a tougher, solid-filled jacket for underground runs.
  • MC (metal-clad) cable — conductors wrapped in a spiral metal armor. The armor comes off in processing; the copper inside is what counts.
  • Tray and control cable — multi-conductor cable from industrial and commercial work.
  • Service entrance and feeder cable — thick cable, serious copper inside.
  • Welding and battery cable — fine-stranded, flexible, all copper.
WHAT “RECOVERY” MEANS

The plain-language version.

Insulated wire is bought on recovery — the percentage of the wire’s weight that is actually copper. A thick feeder cable might be mostly copper; a thin thermostat wire is mostly jacket. Thicker cable with more copper content does better — that’s the whole game.

One rule that never bends: never burn insulation off. Burned wire is downgraded — the heat oxidizes the copper and contaminates it. Sell it jacketed; we handle the processing.

WHAT MOVES YOUR OFFER

Three levers.

Copper content. Thicker conductors, less jacket — higher recovery, stronger offer. Strip a short section and look: fat copper core, thin jacket is the dream.

Cleanliness. Dry, oil-free wire with the ends visible grades with confidence. Mystery ends and oily coils get priced defensively.

Honesty about aluminum. Some cable that looks like copper wire is aluminum inside (or copper-clad aluminum). Strip a section and check before you quote it as copper — the metal ID wizard walks you through it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Insulated wire questions, answered.

Do I need to strip insulated wire before selling?

No. We buy insulated wire as-is, priced on its copper recovery. Stripping only pays on thick cable — and never burn insulation off; burned wire is downgraded.

What is copper recovery?

The percentage of the wire’s weight that is actually copper. Thicker cable with more copper inside recovers higher and earns a stronger offer.

Do you buy Romex?

Yes — Romex (NM-B), THHN, MC cable, UF, tray cable, service cable, any insulated copper wire, any gauge.

How do I know it’s copper and not aluminum?

Strip a short section and look: copper is reddish-orange, aluminum is silvery-white. Copper-clad aluminum has a thin copper skin over silver — file the cut end to see the core.

Do you publish insulated wire prices?

No — markets move daily. Text photos for today’s actual price.
