Grade your lot — no prices, just position.

We never publish prices — markets move daily. But every lot sits somewhere in the value hierarchy, and knowing where tells you how to present it and what to expect. Answer five questions; the estimator places your material in its tier and tells you the highest-value next step.

TIER LOGIC

What moves a lot between tiers

The estimator weighs five inputs the way the market does. Equipment type sets the ceiling: switchgear lineups and transformers start higher than loose residential breakers. Condition is the fastest mover — new-surplus vs. damaged is often two tiers apart on identical equipment. Identification is the gatekeeper: no readable label, no premium tier, no exceptions. Brand splits the middle: major current-production brands hold, obsolete lines trade on scarcity, off-brands discount. Documentation is the multiplier on big gear — drawings and test reports lift switchgear and transformers a full tier. The practical takeaway: the cheapest tier upgrades in the business are a camera (labels), an hour (sorting), and a folder (paperwork).

QUESTIONS

Estimator questions, answered.

Why no dollar figures?

Used electrical prices move with copper markets, demand, and condition — any published number would be wrong within weeks. The tier tells you how to position the lot; photos get you today’s actual price.

What moves a lot up a tier?

In order: identification (labels), sorting (by type, not mixed), condition honesty, and documentation. Each one is free to provide and each one lifts the offer.

My lot came back ‘recovery.’ Is it worthless?

No — recovery means metals value: copper, aluminum, silver contacts, steel. It is the floor, not zero. And sometimes a second look finds resale pieces hiding in a recovery lot.
