NORTH CAROLINA COPPER SOURCING

Where North Carolina copper surplus comes from

North Carolina's Research Triangle tech corridor, Charlotte's banking and data-center buildout, and the Piedmont's manufacturing belt create overlapping surplus streams. Furniture and textile plants in transition, automotive suppliers, aerospace shops, and a fast-growing data-center footprint generate copper cable, carbide tooling, and decommissioned electrical equipment. Military installations around Fayetteville add periodic facility-upgrade surplus.

Show cable size and type

Photograph printing on the insulation, reel labels, conductor size and cut ends. State whether the cable is copper, insulated, armored, tinned or mixed with attachments.

Estimate the quantity

Provide approximate weight, footage, reel count or container size. Group photos with a person, pallet or familiar object for scale can speed initial review.

Keep grades separated

Separate heavy copper cable, bare copper, bus bar and aluminum cable when practical. Clean separation improves identification and avoids unnecessary handling.

How copper wire is evaluated

Not all copper wire is priced the same, and the difference between grades can be substantial. Bare bright copper — clean, uncoated, untarnished wire — sits at the top. Number 1 insulated wire with intact jacketing follows, then number 2 material with oxidation, solder joints, or heavy tarnish. Insulated wire is further judged by its copper recovery rate: thick THHN and feeder cable recover far more copper per pound than thin communication wire, and buyers price accordingly.

New and unused wire on reels is a different category entirely. Surplus reels from cancelled jobs, over-ordered projects, and distributor cleanouts can carry resale value well above scrap, especially for common gauges from recognized manufacturers. Photograph the reel tags, the footage markings, and the cut ends. If the wire is still sealed or stored indoors, say so — condition drives which outlet your material goes to, and the outlet drives the price.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

North Carolina questions, answered.

What types of copper wire and cable do you buy from North Carolina sellers?

We evaluate insulated copper wire, power cable, industrial cable, building wire (THHN, Romex), communication cable, copper bus bar, and surplus electrical cable. Send clear photos of the material, jacket markings, gauge or conductor size when known, and the approximate quantity.

Do you buy new or unused wire on reels?

Yes. New, unused, partial, and surplus reels may have resale value beyond ordinary scrap value. Include photos of the reel tags, manufacturer, conductor size, length, voltage rating, and storage condition so we can review the right outlet.

How do I get today's price for copper wire?

Send photos, estimated weight or footage, material type, and pickup location. We price each lot from current market conditions and the recoverable or resale value of the material, so public per-pound prices are not posted.

Can you evaluate commercial or industrial quantities?

Yes. We review shop cleanouts, contractor overstock, demolition recovery, plant surplus, and recurring quantities. For larger lots, include pallet counts, reel sizes, access details, and whether loading equipment is available.

How does selling copper wire from North Carolina work if you are based in Illinois?

Ironcrest is based in Rolling Meadows, Illinois and buys nationally. Small and mid-size lots typically ship by mail or freight after a photo review; large commercial lots may qualify for coordinated pickup. Send photos, quantity, and your city so we can confirm the best shipping or pickup option.

Identification protects value.

Industrial equipment can be worth more intact than as scrap. Clear photos and nameplates help determine whether resale, component recovery or commodity recovery is the best path.
