ALABAMA ELECTRICAL PURCHASING

Electrical surplus from Alabama industry

Alabama’s industrial base turns over electrical equipment on a steady cycle. The Mercedes-Benz operation at Vance near Tuscaloosa and the Hyundai plant in Montgomery run large-scale manufacturing that generates surplus breakers, starters and drives during line retooling and plant expansions. Huntsville’s aerospace and defense work around Redstone Arsenal and Cummings Research Park produces panelboards, switchgear sections and lab-grade gear from facility upgrades.

Birmingham’s steel industry, Mobile’s shipbuilding yards including Austal USA, and the chemical and port operations along the Gulf Coast all run heavy electrical infrastructure — transformers, switchgear, MCC lineups and bus duct that come out during modernization projects. Contractors across the state pull good gear during renovations of hospitals, schools and commercial buildings.

Ironcrest is based in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. There is no Ironcrest facility in Alabama; we serve Alabama sellers by mail-in and freight, with pickup coordination possible for large commercial lots. We cover Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Decatur, Dothan, Auburn, Florence and Anniston — anywhere in the state with equipment worth moving.

Photograph the nameplates

Get clear, legible photos of every nameplate — manufacturer, model or catalog number, voltage, amperage, frame size and serial. Nameplates are what let us price gear accurately without a site visit.

Note condition honestly

Tell us whether the gear is new in box, used and tested, used untested, weathered or damaged. New-old-stock and clean takeouts sell very differently from weathered outdoor gear.

List the full lineup

For electrical rooms, MCC lineups or switchgear sections, send photos of each bucket or section plus an overall shot. Complete lineups with matching gear have the strongest resale.

OBSOLETE GEAR HAS VALUE

Discontinued breakers and gear may have resale value

Not all electrical surplus is scrap. Obsolete and discontinued circuit breakers, legacy switchgear frames, and hard-to-find motor control components still trade on the resale market because facilities need exact replacements for equipment that is still in service. A breaker that is useless to a contractor can be exactly what a plant maintenance team is hunting for.

That is why nameplate data matters so much. Manufacturer, catalog number, frame, voltage and amperage tell us whether your gear has a resale outlet or is commodity value — and that difference drives the offer. Send the photos before the gear goes to the scrap bin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Alabama electrical equipment questions, answered.

What electrical equipment do you buy?

We evaluate circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear and switchboard sections, panelboards, bus duct and bus plugs, MCC buckets, motor starters and VFDs. Send photos of each item with its nameplate data and your Alabama city for a review.

Do you buy obsolete or discontinued breakers?

Yes. Obsolete and discontinued breakers and gear may have resale value beyond scrap because facilities still need exact replacements for equipment in service. Send manufacturer, catalog number, frame, voltage and amperage so we can check the resale outlet.

What nameplate information should I include?

Manufacturer, model or catalog number, voltage, amperage, frame size, serial number and whether the gear is new, used, tested or weathered. Clear, legible nameplate photos are the fastest path to an accurate offer.

Can you handle full electrical room or plant takeouts?

Yes. We review full electrical rooms, MCC lineups, switchgear sections and plant decommissioning takeouts across Alabama. For larger lots, include photos of each section, access details, and whether loading equipment is available at the site.

Do you pick up electrical equipment in Alabama?

Ironcrest is based in Rolling Meadows, Illinois and serves Alabama sellers by mail-in and freight — we have no facility in Alabama. Smaller items mail in or ship freight; pickup coordination is possible for large commercial lots. Send your city, nameplate photos and details and we will confirm the right path for your equipment.

WHY SEND PHOTOS FIRST

Identification protects value.

Electrical equipment can be worth more intact than as scrap. Clear photos and nameplates help determine whether resale, component recovery or commodity recovery is the best path.
